In October of 2023, we had an Evening with the Author event at our library, and Carla came to share her new book “Gona’s Halloween Hunt” with some of our younger patrons and their parents, to help usher in “spooky season.” The kids enjoyed the story and sound effects that Carla included as she read; paying particular attention to the detailed illustrations. Several of the parents mentioned they had previously checked out Carla’s children’s book “Under the Barnyard Light” from our collection in the past, and their children had also thoroughly enjoyed that story. Two parents noted that the detailed descriptions of farm life and interactions with nature and the animals described in the pages of Carla’s stories prompted their young readers to request horseback riding lessons, so that they, too, could write their own stories about farm life. Carla generously gifted our library a copy of each of her children’s books to add to our collection, and they have continued to be popular with our patrons, as stories that entertain but also touch the heart, regardless of the age of the reader.
